According to Freedom, the ejection was sparked by a verbal confrontation with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud. Cloud had become agitated after Freedom celebrated a three-pointer made by Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, and began yelling at him with personal insults. Freedom stated that Cloud's outburst included a series of profanities, which were directed at him in front of a section filled with young children.
Freedom, who was wearing a shirt that defined "woman" as an "adult human female," said that he was shocked by Cloud's behavior. He explained that he had attended the game to support Cunningham, who has faced backlash for defending female sports. Freedom claimed that he was simply celebrating a good play, and did not intend to provoke Cloud.
Ingraham asked Freedom about the reaction of the WNBA fans, who were reportedly hostile towards him on his way to the game. Freedom replied that he was not deterred by the hostile environment, and that he would continue to support Cunningham and other female athletes who are being targeted by the backlash against them.
