The attorney for the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has pushed back against claims that his client refused to follow the law, stating that the juror had no doubt about his decision.
According to an interview with Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, attorney Edward Paltzik said that juror Michael P. Desronvil had "zero doubt" about his position, despite being the only holdout among the 12 jurors. Paltzik's comments come after the jury foreperson sent a note to the judge accusing Desronvil of refusing to follow the law on reasonable doubt.
The trial, which ended in a mistrial on September 4, was a highly publicized case in which Clancy was accused of killing her three children. Clancy had admitted to the killings, but her defense argued that she was not criminally responsible due to postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors, on the other hand, argued that she understood what she was doing and planned the killings.
Desronvil was the lone holdout after seven days of deliberations, with 11 jurors in favor of finding Clancy not criminally responsible. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial, and Clancy is due back in court on September 29. Prosecutors have not yet announced whether they will retry her.
Paltzik's comments in the interview suggest that Desronvil's decision was based on evidence, with Paltzik stating that his client had "a mountain of evidence" to support his position.
