However, it was Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe who made the play of the night, intercepting Patriots quarterback Drake Maye on the final play of the game. Maye had led the Patriots to the field goal range with less than a minute to play, but his attempt to throw a jump ball to Mack Hollins in the end zone was instead caught by Jobe, securing the win for Seattle.
Maye had a mixed performance, completing 23 of 33 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown, but also throwing three interceptions. The Seahawks' defense was able to capitalize on Maye's mistakes, particularly in the fourth quarter when they were able to take the lead.
Backup quarterback Drew Lock played a key role for the Seahawks, replacing Sam Darnold, who suffered a hip injury just five snaps into the game. Lock was efficient, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown, and was helped by the presence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who caught eight passes for 122 yards, including a game-changing touchdown catch.
The Patriots will be looking to regroup after a disappointing opener, while the Seahawks will be hoping to build on their victory.
