The Philadelphia Eagles' 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday has sparked criticism from former All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel, who believes head coach Nick Sirianni made a critical mistake in the game's final seconds.
Samuel, speaking on the "Say What Needs To Be Said" show, accused Sirianni of losing the game for his team. He specifically criticized the head coach's decision to call a squib kick with eight seconds left, which allowed the Jaguars to return the ball and set up a walk-off win. "You lost the game for your team," Samuel said. "All the coach had to do was call a squib kick. A squib kick at the end of the game is normal and done all the time."
Sirianni had acknowledged his mistake after the game, saying, "I didn't make the right decision and I lost us that game." He took full responsibility for the loss, which dropped the Eagles to 2-3 on the season.
Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts had suggested that game management decisions were outside his control, but Sirianni defended his decision-making, stating that Hurts was focused on executing the play called by the coaches.
Samuel's criticism of Sirianni is not the first to come from within the Eagles' organization. The team's loss in London was a crushing defeat, especially considering they were down to key players Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith due to hamstring injuries.
The Jaguars' victory marked their third straight win, while the Eagles' loss has put them in a tough spot in the NFC East standings.
