The New York Giants are evaluating the status of injured quarterback Jaxson Dart, who suffered a left knee injury during the first series of the Monday Night Football game against the Los Angeles Rams.
The injury occurred when Dart was hit by Rams defenders both high and low, with the low hit causing his left knee to bend in a manner it is not meant to bend. An NFL source has indicated that Dart may have suffered an MCL issue, which could be confirmed by an MRI scheduled for Tuesday.
Giants coach John Harbaugh acknowledged the possibility of an MCL injury after the game, stating that the team would know more about the extent of the injury after the MRI results are available. Harbaugh expressed optimism that the injury is not season-ending, saying "the fact that it's not that outcome is really good news."
Dart limped off the field and was initially treated in the team's medical tent before being escorted to the locker room under his own power. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston came on in his absence, but was largely ineffective, throwing one interception without a touchdown and posting a passer rating of 37.7.
The Giants will have to wait until Tuesday to receive the results of the MRI and determine the extent of Dart's injury.
