Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., believes the recent raid on her home in Washington, D.C., was intended to intimidate and scare people away from voting in the midterm elections. The raid, carried out by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) last Monday, was connected to an investigation into potential immigration fraud. Authorities are probing whether Omar or her father lied on paperwork that helped her gain citizenship.

Omar, who has largely avoided public scrutiny since the raid, gave her first interview on the subject on "All In with Chris Hayes". She suggested that the decision to investigate her was a last-ditch effort by President Donald Trump to appeal to right-wing influencers. Omar stated that the raid was likely a way for Trump to "save face" and "gin up this sort of frenzy" over voter fraud allegations.

The congresswoman also noted that the raid had likely had the opposite effect, inspiring people to vote in spite of the president's efforts to intimidate them. She pointed to reports of long lines at early voting sites and a high demand for assistance from voters.

The White House has not commented on Omar's claims. President Trump has previously warned that Omar could face deportation or jail if the allegations against her are proven. However, no further action has been taken at this time.

Omar's husband, Tim Mynett, has been seen outside the residence since the raid, and campaign aides have been spotted bringing in food and assisting with voter outreach efforts.
