A nurse at a Michigan hospital has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse after allegedly beating a 4-month-old baby girl, leaving the infant with broken bones and bruises.

Kieran Ansley, 43, was fired from Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids after the allegations came to light. The child, who was born four months premature, had been making progress in the ICU and was expected to go home in April.

According to court records, Ansley was seen by the child's mother as "flustered" and "a little bit frustrated" on the night of the alleged abuse. The mother had visited the infant on April 2 and noticed that the child's tongue was "blue and black" and that several bruises were on the child that weren't there the night before.

Ansley allegedly claimed to have seen similar injuries in the past and not considered them to be a big deal. However, hospital staff described Ansley as being "heated" and "overwhelmed" on the night of the alleged abuse.

Ansley has been released on bond and is expected to appear in court on November 10. Her attorney, Damian Nunzio, has stated that Ansley has been cooperative during the investigation and is a "very good person."
