A recent survey of adults aged 65 and older has found that Olive Garden is the top choice among baby boomers for casual dining. The poll, conducted by YouGov, asked 7,500 adults in this age group which casual dining chain they would consider visiting next, and 33.8% responded that they would choose Olive Garden.
The Florida-based chain beat out other major casual dining chains, including Texas Roadhouse, Applebee's, Cracker Barrel, and Outback Steakhouse. Olive Garden also ranked high among all Americans surveyed for its service and dining experience, with 12.8% and 12.1% of respondents respectively choosing it as the top brand in these categories.
According to Chad Moutray, chief economist for the National Restaurant Association, the appeal of Olive Garden extends beyond its older clientele. The chain's quality, hospitality, and overall dining experience make it a popular choice for consumers who are increasingly selective about how they spend their money.
Olive Garden's broad appeal is also evident in its ranking as a top option for family outings, avoiding cooking, and satisfying specific food cravings. The chain also has the broadest emotional resonance of any brand, according to a report by Morning Consult.
In contrast, Gen Z, the youngest age group surveyed, chose Chili's as their favorite casual dining chain, with 29.6% of respondents in the 18-29 age group choosing it over Olive Garden's 28.7%.
