Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White addressed criticism of her response to a recent incident involving one of her players before Tuesday night's game against the New York Liberty.
White was questioned about her handling of a flagrant foul committed by DiJonai Carrington on Sophie Cunningham during a previous game. She defended herself, urging fans and critics to focus on the sport rather than the controversy surrounding it.
The Fever went on to defeat the Liberty 106-92, with Kelsey Mitchell scoring 28 points and Caitlin Clark adding 22 points and 10 assists. Mitchell made 11 of her 16 field goal attempts and hit four three-pointers, while Clark also connected on four threes. Sophie Cunningham contributed 12 points for Indiana.
New York attempted to mount a comeback in the third quarter, but the Fever regained control with key baskets from Mitchell and Cunningham. The lead was pushed to 87-67 by the end of the period, and Indiana held on for the win.
The victory marked the Fever's seventh win in nine games, solidifying their position at the top of the Eastern Conference standings.
