A mass shooting at a neighborhood block party in South Georgia left two people dead and 35 injured early Sunday morning, according to officials. Over 1,000 people were gathered in Vienna, Georgia, when more than 50 shots were fired in at least two locations about a block apart.

Deputies were on patrol at the block party when shots were fired on the 900 block of Pine Street, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The sheriff's office had requested the assistance of the GBI, which is leading the investigation into the incident.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. Most of the 35 injured victims suffered gunshot wounds, while several others were hit by cars or suffered other injuries as people fled the scene. The victims were transported to hospitals for treatment.

The ages of the injured victims range from 14 to 51, and their conditions range from stable to critical, according to the GBI. The victims killed in the shooting were identified as Jaquevion Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville.

The incident occurred over homecoming weekend for Dooly County High School, but school officials have stated that the shooting was not at a school-sponsored event. The school system has announced that schools will open on Monday with additional safety measures in place.
