Oregon overcame a slow start to defeat Boise State 34-27 in the season opener for both teams. The Ducks, who entered the game as heavy favorites, found themselves tied 27-27 with the Broncos in the fourth quarter. However, a 62-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dante Moore to wide receiver Dakorien Moore put Oregon ahead for good.
The Broncos, who are joining the Pac-12 Conference this season after spending last year in the Mountain West, gave the Ducks a scare. Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen finished the game with 181 passing yards and three touchdowns. He had a strong performance, building on last year's numbers when he threw for 2,334 yards and 18 touchdowns.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Broncos taking an early lead on a 13-yard scoring pass from Madsen to Cam Bates. The Ducks tied the game on Jordon Davison's 1-yard dive in the second quarter. Boise State regained the lead, but Oregon eventually took the lead on Jeremiah McClellan's 8-yard touchdown catch.
The Broncos tied the game again in the third quarter, but the Ducks managed to pull ahead in the fourth quarter on Dakorien Moore's 62-yard touchdown pass. Oregon's home winning streak against nonconference opponents now stands at 39 games, the longest active streak in the nation.
The Ducks will travel to Stillwater next week to face Oklahoma State, while Boise State will host Memphis in Week 2.
