A popular Egyptian TV host, Sarah Khalifa, has been sentenced to death by hanging in a major synthetic drug trafficking case. Khalifa is one of 12 defendants who were convicted of forming an organized criminal group to manufacture and traffic synthetic drugs. The group allegedly operated like a production and distribution network, with members assigned different roles, including importing raw materials and manufacturing and distributing the synthetic drugs.
According to reports, the case against Khalifa and the other defendants relied on statements from 20 witnesses, as well as technical and digital evidence, including messages, photographs, and videos that prosecutors said documented the alleged criminal activity. The investigation also resulted in the seizure of over 750 kilograms of synthetic narcotics and raw materials.
Khalifa is a well-known media personality and beauty clinic owner who has appeared on several Egyptian television channels. She has a significant following on social media, with over 2.5 million followers on Instagram. Khalifa was reportedly arrested in Cairo in April 2025 as part of the investigation.
The case involved a total of 28 defendants, with 12 sentenced to death, nine receiving life sentences, and seven acquitted of all charges. The defendants' assets and bank accounts have been placed under precautionary measures, and those already in custody have been ordered to remain detained.
