Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua has been ruled out of Monday Night Football's matchup against the New York Giants due to hip and groin tightness.
Nacua developed the injury during practice late in the week, prompting head coach Sean McVay and the medical staff to exercise caution and keep him sidelined.
The injury is a significant blow to the Rams' offense, which is already reeling from a 27-7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. In that game, Nacua was one of the few bright spots, hauling in five receptions for 74 yards.
With Nacua out, quarterback Matthew Stafford will have to rely on other receivers, including Davante Adams, who is expected to draw top coverage attention. Backup receiver Jordan Whittington is also hampered by a quad injury, leaving the Rams to rely on reserves Tutu Atwell and Xavier Smith to keep the offense balanced.
The Rams' defense, however, is getting a boost from the return of defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who is stepping out of retirement to make his season debut. Donald is expected to play a managed rotational load of around 30 snaps as he works back into game shape.
